Listening, following instruction, and staying on task — habits that show up at school before they show up in tournaments.
Confidence, discipline, focus, and real self-defense — taught with structure, patience, and fun.
At Roger Gracie Academy in Frisco, Texas, our mission is to transform lives through the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The kids program is led by Professor Alex Faria, a revered black belt under the legendary Roger Gracie, together with Coach Blade Steelman, whose wrestling background and years of coaching young athletes round out a complete grappling foundation.
We believe in the power of Jiu Jitsu as a tool for personal growth and development. Our focus on building a world-class kids program stems from a profound passion for empowering children through the teachings of Jiu Jitsu. We strive to instill values of discipline, respect, teamwork, and perseverance in our young students, both on and off the mat.
At the heart of our efforts lies a commitment to enhancing the lives of children by providing them with a supportive community where they can thrive. Through a blend of fun and structure, we aim to create a nurturing environment where kids can learn, grow, and forge lasting friendships. By supplementing their education with the invaluable lessons of Jiu Jitsu, we equip them with the tools they need to unlock their full potential and shape a brighter future.
Every stripe is earned — and every belt promotion at RGA Frisco is free, forever.

Listening, following instruction, and staying on task — habits that show up at school before they show up in tournaments.

Consistent effort, respect for coaches and training partners, and the patience to master one position at a time.

Winning without boasting, losing without quitting, and learning from both. Sparring is meditation, not competition.

Real, controlled self-defense: how to stay calm, control distance, and neutralize a bigger aggressor without throwing a punch.

Professor Alex Faria — Roger Gracie black belt and head instructor — sets the technical curriculum for every kids class.
Coach Blade Steelman helps Professor Alex lead the kids program, bringing an experienced wrestling background and years of coaching young athletes to the mat. His wrestling knowledge strengthens students' takedowns, balance, base, hand fighting, and positional awareness — and his coaching experience keeps classes structured, encouraging, and age-appropriate.
Working together, they run a program where children develop real grappling skill while building habits that carry beyond the mat.
Competition is an option at RGA Frisco — never a requirement. Kids who reach the right rank and skill level can be invited into the competition class, and our professors and coaches are present at tournaments to coach every student.
Kids competition classes run Fridays at 5:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM during the month of the tournament. The Friday class (ages 7–12) is by invitation.
For students who choose to compete, Coach Blade's wrestling experience adds practical tools for establishing position, initiating takedowns, and staying composed under pressure.
